The Douro Valley is one of the most wonderful, imposing and dramatic territories of Europe and the world.

Douro

Located in north-eastern Portugal, in the Douro River basin, surrounded by mountains that give it unique mesological and climatic characteristics, the Douro Demarcated Region was the first in the world to be demarcated and regulated, back in 1756, under the auspices of the Marquis de Pombal. It is in this region that one of the “classic” wines of the world is produced - Port.

Spanning a total area of approximately 250 000 hectares, it is divided into three naturally distinct sub-regions - Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo and Douro Superior. The region is characterised by its schist slopes and a Mediterranean climate, with very cold winters and very hot and dry summers. These are favourable conditions for the full ripening of the grapes and, consequently, for the production of excellent quality wines.
